Frequently asked questions
My trainer won't connect
Make sure Bluetooth is on and your trainer is powered on and not already connected to another app (like your bike computer or another training app) — a trainer can usually only hold one active Bluetooth connection at a time. In WattBird, pull up the connect screen and let it scan; most trainers appear within a few seconds. If a trainer was previously paired and stops showing up, try forgetting it in Settings and reconnecting.
Which trainers does WattBird support?
Any Bluetooth smart trainer that implements the FTMS (Fitness Machine Service) standard — this covers the vast majority of modern smart trainers regardless of brand.
How is WattBird different from apps like TrainerRoad or Zwift?
WattBird is a lighter, more focused alternative. There's no subscription, no virtual world, and no training-plan algorithm — just fast pairing to any Bluetooth trainer, pre-made or custom structured workouts, and a clean live view during your ride. If you want a simple tool for structured indoor workouts rather than a full training platform, that's exactly what WattBird is built for.
Can I export my ride data?
Yes — every completed ride can be exported as a standard Garmin FIT file from the ride summary or history screen, which you can share to any app that accepts FIT files.
Is my data backed up anywhere?
Your ride history lives on your device. We don't operate a backend that stores it, so there's nothing on our end to restore if you lose your device — we'd recommend keeping iCloud backups on for your iPhone in general.
How do I request beta access?
WattBird is currently distributed via TestFlight. Email info@splitbaguette.com and we'll send you an invite.
